Iranian feature ‘The Descendants’ wins award at the MCIFA in Australia.

Iranian feature ‘The Descendants’ has won two awards at the Melbourne City Independent Film Awards (MCIFA) in Australia.

The film's actress Viktoria Lushnikova received the award for best actress in a supporting role and the award for best screenplay of feature films went to Tamanna Rastegar, Hamid Rasoulpour-Hedayati, Yaser Talebi, and Mitra Rouhi-Manesh.

Also directed by Talebi, ‘The Descendants’ is about a relationship. Jacob’s family worries about Farrokh, the son of the family. Farrokh left Iran to continue his studies abroad, but he has not been in touch with them for a long time. Jacob travels to Sweden to look for his son.

Talebi’s movie has so far received a number of international awards, including the best feature film award at the 14th Accolade Global Film Competition Award in the US and the best picture award at the 3rd Ammar Popular Film Festival in Iran.

‘The Descendants’ has also won best film prize at the Formosa Festival of International Filmmaker Awards in Taiwan and the Yonder Award for a non-North Carolina film at the 3rd Longleaf Film Festival in North Carolina, US.

 The 2nd Ridgefield Independent Film Festival and the 3rd Longleaf Film Festival in the US, the 2017 Silver Horse International Film Festival in Sweden, as well as the Rivne International Film Festival “Dream City” in Ukraine are among the other festivals that screened the Iranian flick.

The MCIFA is Melbourne's first ever monthly online film competition for filmmakers worldwide, with an annual event and awards ceremony in the heart of Melbourne. It is aimed to promote and celebrate independent films and filmmakers from across the globe.

The 2018 edition of the MCIFA was held in July.
